Workplace Information

Faculty & Staff - Your Privacy at UF

There are both federal and state laws which govern various aspects of the privacy of employees, including the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Federal Wiretap Law, and Privacy Tort laws. Privacy in the workplace is a complex issue that continues to evolve as workplace monitoring issues become known.

Employers may want to monitor their workers closely; however, workplace privacy is generally considered an important value, helping to build trust and maintain loyalty. On the other hand, employees generally have limited expectations of privacy in their workplace, and court cases have generally upheld this assumption.
